The Catty Box: Skins – Shiloh by Exodi (Ryker Beck)

June 27, 2009

June has been a busy month for me with rl happenings, Hair Fair 2009 preparations etc but finally Thursday I started taking pics for this blog post that has been on my To Do list for too long. Ryker Beck has outdone herself with her newest skin, Shiloh. Shiloh was released earlier this month under the new name Exodi, replacing Genesis as the Ryker Beck label. It is no secret that I am a huge fan of Ryker’s work, and I was fortunate enough to get to beta this skin, and had been sooo anxiously awaiting it since that little peek. I love the previous skins, Eden and Candace, and I knew this was going to be something special. I was not disappointed. I have a feeling Shiloh will be my fave skin for quite a long time, the one I’ll always go back to.

Exodi - Shiloh

Exodi - Shiloh - Oceania : Gone Wild

Shiloh is available in 4 skin tones, Caramel being my favorite (of all Exodi skin tones in fact), and the one shown here. The initial release of Shiloh included 8 make ups, all very yummy and offering a good selection from the bestest red lip ever, to a soft natural look. Later, Shiloh – Oceania was released, which includes 8 tropical summery make up options. Shiloh offers the same quality of detailing and muscling that Candace offers, but is much more refined. I love the belly button, the nipples…are just nearly perfect, the details on the knees and arms…even the nails! The shadows and detail of the spine and collarbone are simply the best, and of course, the ears! All Shiloh Skins are available at Exodi.

As I was taking pics for this blog post, rumors began to come of the tragic loss of Michael Jackson. As a long time faithful fan of MJ, I was stunned by this news. Following the wake of this news Ryker Beck did something amazing…she put all of the Shiloh skins, as well as Eden2, the jewelry, clothing, and select other items at Exodi, on sale for 50% off, with 100% of all sales thru July 3 to go to Make a Wish Foundation in memory of Michael Jackson. She has taken a horrible day, and done something great, allowing us all an opportunity to mourn the loss of an exceptional person and artist, while at the same time giving back. This is a perfect opportunity to try the Exodi skins, as well as her other creations. Thank you Ryker for sharing your art and your love.
Michael, may you finally find the peace and love you deserve, and may we all come to understand what a gift your time with us was. As I watch my daughter’s love of music and dance grow to include an appreciation of yours, I know that what you gave us will continue to grow and be appreciated in the years to come.

Dick Talk: The $1L Demo and You

June 25, 2009

There has been talk lately about people boycotting the $1L demos at hair fair, or anywhere for that matter – the reasoning being that people were selling demos for $1L just to make up for lost sales or to try to get rich. This is just crazy…

First of all, no one is going to get rich selling $1L items and it is not done to makeup for “lost sales”. Lets do some simple math. To buy a sim you would need about $200,000L. If I tried to do that within one year that would be close to 550 $1L sales per day every day. If you had that kind of traffic at a 2% conversion rate you would not even need to worry about trying to sell a dollarbie.

Saying that someone is doing this to get rich just shows ignorance of SL economy and reeks of only wanting to be heard. Most people do this so that they can track interest in particular items. You can download your transactions and exclude $0L transactions. $0L transactions would include giving inventory and getting gifts among other things. This lets you have a spreadsheet that is only financial transactions.

Also, thinking that someone only had $10L in uploading a texture is crazy. If I spend 24 man hours working on a texture (which is very low btw), lets equate that to real USD. If I spent that same time consulting or doing custom design work getting paid $50 per hour that would be $1,200 USD. At the exchange rate of 1/4 of a PENNY for $1L, I would need to sell 480,000 $1L items to recoup my time!

I do this as a creative outlet and the feeling of accomplishment that I get in contributing to this world as a content creator. Spending 1/4 of a penny to demo something that I have spent $1,200USD of my time on … I mean COME ON….geezz… its 1/4 of a PENNY…

Fire at Dionysia’s

June 23, 2009

Dionysia has put out a new jewelry set line…with magnificent textures as alwaysThe line is called Opulence and comes in three stones so far…blue moonstones, pink pearl, and Mexican opal (shown). Love the textures on each one…and each is set in a diamond and gold setting which seems to shimmer without any bling. To add to perfection is a dollarbie bracelet which matches all sets..and a free anklet in the Subscribomatic which matches all as well.  Stop by here and check them out…as well as the other designs she has.  And great news for guys….she is working on opening an all male store for her masculine designs!

New Hair at Adam & Eve

June 18, 2009

It seems that Sachi got bored or something…and has redone the entire hair section at Adam & Eve…all the old designs are gone as well and replaced with a large selection of new ones…with new and great textures.  The selection is quite varied…from short…very short…ankle length…updos…pigtails…ponytails and then some. There is also a free fat pack of a cute twist effect called Lena…which also lets you demo the colours and textures.  She also has 5 new styles that will not be available until Hair Fair starts…all of them look to be must haves to me. Be sure when buying at the main store to use the Valued Client card…where you earn points for every purchase.  And on to the pics of a few of the new styles.

First is the free hair…Lena…short and brushed back in the front…with a braided twist effect in the backA&Ehair_006

Next is Patti…a cute flip style with an untamed look to it…a bit spiky all the way around but not too wild

A&Ehair_004

A&Ehair_005

This one has already become a favourite of mine…Heidi…braided across the crown with a few wisps hanging down…and short in the back…different from anything i have seen so far in SL

The last I have to show is Paris… a high, long ponytail style with bangs that tickle the eyelashes without hiding your eyes

A&Ehair_001

A ton more to see, so be sure to stop by and try the free demos…and several of the styles are low ARC as well…just another plus!
